According to the US Census Bureau, there were 526,355 firms with 20 to 99 employees in the US in 2004. CrownPeak emits approximately 124 short tons of CO2 annually. Assuming companies of CrownPeak's size typically emit about the same amount of CO2 as CrownPeak, all companies of CrownPeak's size account for around 65,268,020 tons of CO2 emitted each year. According to a study published in Forbes.com on June 20, 2007, the United States produced 6.39 billion short tons (5.8 billion metric tons) of CO2 last year. Thus, all companies of CrownPeak's size accounted for, on aggregate, approximately one percent of total CO2 emissions in the United States last year. This estimate is may be below the true amount because CrownPeak probably emits less than the typical company of its categorical size. While these shared emissions represent only about one percent of America's total CO2 emissions, it is better to think of environmental impacts in absolute terms. If 50% of all companies of CrownPeak's size became carbon neutral, 32,634,010 more tons of CO2 would be "internalized." The typical American emits about 7.5 tons of CO2 each year, which gives us the conclusion that if 50% of companies of CrownPeak's size become carbon neutral, that would account for the annual CO2 emissions of over 4.3 million Americans.
